Octopus

**Octopus is just as chewy for cats, and a whole piece or large chunk easily chokes or blocks the oesophagus**, so it must be cooked through and cut very small; raw octopus carries parasites and bacteria, and cephalopods are a common allergen.

Retching, repeated swallowing, drooling, vomiting, trouble swallowing and lethargy; a full blockage brings refusal to eat and laboured breathing, and allergy brings facial swelling, itching and hives.

**Contact a vet immediately** after a large piece is swallowed, or for retching, trouble swallowing or laboured breathing, and never induce vomiting at home.

At most a rare rice-grain-sized piece or two, thoroughly cooked; **never give cats spicy griddled octopus, takoyaki or octopus sashimi**; start smaller and watch for 24 hours, with complete cat food as the main diet.
